The recently established Department of Molecular Signal Processing at the Leibniz-Institute of Plant Biochemistry, Halle (Saale), invites applications by highly motivated PhD candidates of any nationality with interests in the areas of plant hormone signaling or nutrient sensing.
Signal Integration in Auxin Signaling: The successful applicant will be a member of the Graduiertenkolleg 1026 “Conformational transitions in macromolecular interactions” and will study the molecular integration of phytochrome-dependent light signaling and auxin signaling at the level of post-translational modification of auxin-regulated transcription factors (Aux/IAA repressors).
Phosphate Sensing in Root Development: The PhD candidate will advance research to understand how external availability of phosphate regulates stem cell fate and activity in the root meristem via proteins of the endoplasmic reticulum and nuclear transcription factors essential for root patterning. This project will be based on previously published work (Ticconi et al., PNAS 2009:106:14174).

Both positions are available for 3 years with the possibility of extension. Driven and creative candidates with an outstanding qualification (diploma/master degree in biochemistry or biology) will benefit from the unique research environment of the IPB and adjacent weinberg-campus of the Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg. The IPB is an international research institute with about 180 employees and provides state of the art facilities for research in natural products chemistry/metabolomics, plant biochemistry/proteomics, and cell biology/imaging (http://www.ipb-halle.de/).
