We offer a DVM/MD-PhD student position within an interdisciplinary project sponsored by the Zurich Centre for Integrative Human Physiology (http://www.zihp.uzh.ch).
Within this international multi-group project that involves clinical, translational and basic science aspects we investigate mechanisms of haemoglobin toxicity and protection in dedicated physiologic (animal/human) and cell culture models. The issue of Hb toxicity is of increasing interest as a novel pathophysiologic factor in animal and human disease. A focus of the offered thesis project will be on the refinement of an in vivo model (dog) in order to measure organ dysfunction and explore novel mechanisms and potential biomarkers by high end mass spectrometry based proteomics.
An integrated clinical/basic research education in Internal Medicine (MD or DVM) can be offered for outstanding applicants.
We look for a highly motivated person with a career aim in translational medicine and a Masters degree in Veterinary Medicine or Human Medicine. Start of the project will be January 15th 2011.
