9 PhD scholarships and 1 postdoctoral scholarship
Giessen University’s International Graduate Centre for the Study of Culture (GCSC), funded by the German federal government’s Excellence Initiative, offers a three-year structured PhD-programme in the study of culture. With its excellent research environment, a doctoral programme which is tailored to the needs of PhD students and the intensive personal support it provides, the Graduate Centre offers postgraduate students optimum conditions for their PhD-projects and a custom-made preparation for the time thereafter, both with regard to academic and non-academic careers.
From 01st October 2009, the GCSC offers up to 9 PhD scholarships and 1 postdoctoral scholarship.
PhD scholarships include a monthly stipend of approximately €1.000 and are offered for one year with the possibility of two extensions, each of a year. The postdoctoral scholarship, with a monthly stipend of about €1.500, is limited to two years. All scholarships start on 01st October, 2009.

We invite applications for two Research Council funded (BBSRC) studentships to start in October 2009. One of the studentships will be industry supported (CASE).
Applications are invited for nine MRes/PhD 4-year studentships within the British Heart Foundation (BHF) Centre of Research Excellence at Imperial College London, to start in October 2009. These studentships will be funded by the BHF for 4 years, on a tax free starting bursary of £18,000 per annum. Please note that tuition fees will be paid at the Home/EU rate. These are funded through a training grant from the BHF. There is no provision for overseas student fees..
Looking for a two year postdoctoral position with a strong background in microwaves and advanced electromagnetics starting July 2009. A background in GaAs devices and circuits and/or background in microfabrication/MEMS is desirable but not needed. The candidate must show a strong record of research publications and an ability to spearhead a research program independently. An ability to mentor undergraduate and graduate students is a must.
The position is conditional on the funding availability. Since this is government sponsored postdoc position, a US citizenship or permenant residency is required.
Dorothy Hodgkin Postgraduate Studentship in CFD for Gas Turbines -Thermo-Fluid Systems University Technology Centre
Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences, University of Surrey, and Rolls-Royce plc
Starting date: 1st April 2009
The main research focus will be on the development, evaluation and application of CFD based methods for compressor disc drum thermal analysis. This includes development of models and stability analysis of complex buoyancy affected flows in rapidly rotating disc cavities. The research will contribute to ongoing developments in CFD and its applications to turbomachinery in the Rolls-Royce supported University Technology Centre.
